The tax code directly determines the tax rate that will be used to calculate the tax amount on an accounting journal (most of the time an invoice or a credit memo). The tax code is stored on the posting line in order for this tax to be properly declared. The tax code also mentions other elements in order for the tax to be declared to the authorities. (tax rule, tax type, tax proportion...).
