Maximum Periods
This activity code is used to define the maximum number of periods that can be used per fiscal year (remembering that an unlimited number of fiscal years can be on-line independently of this activity code).
Recommended values
In addition to the standard accounting periods (if they correspond to a month and the fiscal year is a standard year, we would usually have 12 periods), it is necessary to add the carry forward period and the closing period (which usually makes 14).
It can be necessary to go beyond this if working with fiscal years of variable duration (this is the case when there is a plan to change the fiscal year end date).
The maximum number of standard accounting periods is 26, to which a carry forward period is added, as well as a closing period for some countries (for example, Italy).

Remarks
This criterion has a sizing impact on the database, because it defines the number of occurrences of the balance (debit, credit, commitment, pre-commitment balances), dimensional balance (amount, quantity, commitments in amount and quantity, pre-commitments in amount and quantity) and budget (amount, quantity) fields.
