General parameters > Chapter Common Data > Parameter OPTBICSTR (Optional BIC code start date)

The date entered in this parameter defines from what date the BIC code becomes optional on a mandate (GESMDT) for SEPA transactions. Starting from 01/02/2016, entering the BIC code is not compulsory for mandates.

  • If the mandate creation date (i.e.: the day on which you created it) is prior to the date entered in this parameter, then the BIC code must be specified on the mandate. You cannot validate the mandate as long as the BIC code has not be specified (provided that the other fields required for validating the mandate are entered).
  • If the mandate creation date is equal or greater than the date entered in this parameter, entering the BIC code on the mandate is not necessary. You can validate the mandate even if the BIC code has not be specified (provided that the other fields required for validating the mandate are entered).

Example:

The date entered in this parameter is 01/02/2016.
You are creating a mandate on 01/03/2016: it is not necessary to enter the BIC code on the mandate.
