General parameters > Chapter Supervisor > Parameter AUTOSEL (Automatic selection)

This parameter is useful for all the fields for which there is a selection with respect to a list of values mentioned in a table. When this parameter is set to Yes, and a value that does not exist in the table is entered:

  • a selection window opens automatically and displays all the values whose code starts with the characters keyed-in, if there is more than one.
  • If there is only one value, it is proposed automatically.
  • If there is no value, an error message is displayed.

Example

Assuming that the currency table contains the following codes in the following order:

... AUD (Australian Dollar), CAD (Canadian Dollar), CHF (Swiss Franc) and EUR (euro)...

If the parameter is set to Yes, the following will occur:

  • If AU is entered, the field will be complemented by AUD (a unique value exists).
  • If C is typed in, a selection window opens to submit a choice between CAD and CHF.
  • If C has been typed in, the error message Currency: key does not exist is displayed (that would correspond to the default behavior of the three cases if the parameter was not equal to Yes).

Level of localization / Global variable

The parameter is defined at the level User.Belongs to Module SUP (Supervisor) and to Group INT (Interface User),in which the following parameters can also be found :

The global variable GAUTOSEL is associated to it.

Comments

If the user wishes to maintain a certain level of homogeneity between the operation of the user interface and what was done in version 14X, the value of the parameter should be left to No.
