How to use qr codes in mail merge templates

To generate a field containing QR-code, it is mandatory to use at least Microsoft Word 2013.

Also, it is mandatory to enable an eastern language for your office (for example, Japanese).

On the “Mailings” ribbon you’ll find the button “Insert Barcode Field”. Click this button and follow the dialog.

Within the content control, you can then insert a field code by using the keys Ctrl+F9. Between the curly brackets you can capture the field code for QR-code such as:

DISPLAYBARCODE "xxx" QR

The text between the quotes will be replaced with the value given in the tag of the content control.

Limitation: Content controls containing QR-code can only be added outside a table.
