UI Extensibility

This documentation describes the use of extensibility scenarios that are experimentally deployed in update 9. The APIs described here are minimal and will evolve in the future. They require a manual deployment that prevents for the moment an installation on the Clouds. They are usable only in an Early adopter program context.

This article gives an overview of the UI extensibility mechanisms of the SAFE X3 platform.

SAFE X3 provides a rich toolkit of UI components that cover the common needs of business application. But sometimes, developers need specific components that SAFE X3 does not provide out-of-the-box.

The UI extensibility framework provides the necessary tools and APIs to customize the web user interface. It caters for several customization scenarios:

• Custom widget associated to a single property. For example, the UI framework does not provide any color picker out-of-the-box. The extensibility framework allows you to add a color picker widget to the UI framework and to tag the properties that hold RGB values so that they can be displayed and edited with a color picker.
• Custom action in application shell. For example, an additional icon in the top bar of the web page, that opens a calculator widget.

An additional development feature allows to launch a windows executable from the client. As this might be a security flaw, it is secured by a windows registry entry. This feature is described here.
