Common data > Costing > Costing dimensions

The costing dimensions are used to mention the financial information on which the calculation of the provisional costs and the calculation of the production cost price are based.

They are used by the main and secondary work centers.

A costing dimension is attached to a production site and can be associated with various work centers.

Presentation

Costing dimensions

A costing dimension code (over 20 alphanumerical characters), then an assignment site (production site) need to be mentioned.

Parameters

Overhead Code

It is possible to associate an overheads code with the costing dimension.

The overheads are used at costing dimension level in order to be able to integrate additional costs when using the machine or a labor type work center.

Cost group:

It is possible to associate the costing dimension with a cost range among the three cost ranges defined in local menu 316 in the Manufacturing module.

The cost calculations are used to distribute the work center costs across 3 separate sub-totals.

Rate

Rate type

This section makes it possible to attach a rate to the various provisional costs for the setup and operating parts.

It should be mentioned whether the costing dimension is based on an hourly cost type or a fixed cost type.

For a fixed cost type, it is considered as a fixed rate.

Analytical dimensions

For each costing dimension, it is possible to specify analytical dimension views according to the number of dimension views defined at folder level (9 max)

Fields

The following fields are present on this tab :

Block number 1

  • Costing dimension (field VLTCCE)

Use this field to link this work center with your financial accounting. The costing dimension provides financial information on which the calculation of the provisional costs, and the production cost price are based.

Define the costing dimension.

The site is used to filter the Analytical Dimensions and express the schedule rates in a given currency.

  • Description (field WCTDESAXX)

This long description is used as a title in screens and reports.

By default the short title, the long title or the column header of a data are recorded (on creation/update) in the connection language of the user.
You can add your translation in another language using the Translation function:

  • Click Translation from the Actions icon in the corresponding field.
  • In the Translation window, add a new language code with the translation in this language.

A user who logs on with this language will view the short description, long description or column header in their connection language if a translation exists. Otherwise, these descriptions will be available in the folder language.

SEEINFOThe connection language must be defined as a default language for thefolder.

  • Short description (field WCTSHOAXX)

Short title used in the screens and reports. This title is recorded in your connection language.

Parameters

Select an overhead code.

Overhead codes are used as follows:

  • To value selected stock movement types.
The column that defines the formula or fixed rate to be used for the calculation is defined by the OVECOLSTK - Stock overhead column parameter (STO chapter, VAL group).
  • To determine the cost price or the production cost price calculation.
Selected functions use the overhead code for the following:
    • To value work center overheads associated with the valuation dimension.
    • To value overheads for materials or semi-finished products.

The overheads column that contains the formula or fixed rate to be used in the cost price calculation functions is defined by parameters. For standard cost calculations the OVECOLSTD - Standard calc overhead column parameter (GPA chapter, COS group) applies.

You can modify the column to be applied before running the calculation.

  • Cost group (field BRDCOD)

Cost calculations are used to break down work center costs.

You can define the number of family cost groups available using activity codes MAC - Number of machine groups and LAB - Number of labor groups. For example, you can define an 'Assembly' subtotal, a 'Manufacturing' subtotal and a 'Control' subtotal in which to distribute work center costs.

WIP interface

Use this field to specify the accounting code of the site.
The accounting code is a default value used in the setting up of accounting entries.
It refers to a table that lists a certain amount of elements (collective accounts, accounts or parts of accounts) that can be used for the determination of the documents that will be posted.

Rate

  • Rate type (field CSTTYP)

The rate type can be:

  • unitary
  • contractual
If the rate type is unitary, the cost of the work center is proportional to time spent.
If it is contractual, the cost is independent from time spent.

  • Standard setup (field STDSETCST)

Standard hourly rate used to value the setting time in the standard cost calculations.

  • Standard run (field STDOPECST)

Standard hourly rate used to value the running time in the standard cost calculations.

  • Revised setup (field CUTSETCST)

Updated hourly rate used to value the setting time in the updated standard cost calculations.

  • Revised run (field CUTOPECST)

Updated hourly rate used to value the operation time in the updated standard cost calculations.

  • Budgeted setup (field BUDSETCST)

Budget hourly rate used to value the setting time in the budget cost calculations.

  • Budgeted run (field BUDOPECST)

Budget hourly rate used to value the operation time in the budget cost calculations.

  • Simulated setup (field SIMSETCST)

Simulation hourly rate used to value the setting time in the simulated cost calculations.

  • Simulated run (field SIMOPECST)

Simulation hourly rate used to value the running time in the simulated cost calculations.

Grid

The setup determines if the analytical dimensions can be modified. They are initialized based on the setup of the default dimension.

In creation mode, if no order line has been entered and the project code is modified, the analytical dimensions are reset based on the setup of default dimensions.

In creation mode, as in modification mode, if an order line is entered and the project code is modified, the analytical dimensions are not reset.

Reports

By default, the following reports are associated with this function :

 WORKCOST : Cost dimension listing

This can be changed using a different setup.

Error messages

In addition to the generic error messages, the following messages can appear during the entry :

Sites : Record non-existent

The site that you have entered does not exist in the site table.

Warning, costs are expressed in the former currency.

You have modified the site of the costing dimension and you have chosen a new site for which the currency is different from that of the previous site: you must check if the hourly rates are still in compliance with this currency.

Check that the analytical dimensions have the same site as the site of the costing dimension.

Similarly, if you modify the site of the costing dimension, some analytical dimensions may not be compliant any longer (associated with another site).

Overheads codes: Record non-existent

The expenses code entered does not exist in the overheads code table.

Analytical dimensions : Record non-existent

The analytical dimension entered does not exist in the analytical dimensions table.

The site of the analytical dimension must be identical to the site of the costing dimension.

You have chosen an analytical dimension linked to a site different from the one chosen for the costing dimension.
