Common data > Product tables > Location types

The location types contribute to the setup of the management of the stock locations.
They are used to:

  • codify the locations of the warehouse sites,
  • group the locations with similar characteristics according to certain criteria, (authorized quality statuses, dimensions, storage constraints, etc.),
  • give the rules for the assignment of the locations to the products, in the receipt to stock movements.

Fields

The following fields are present on this tab :

Enter or select the storage site where the selected product is active.

The Selection icon (magnifying glass) only suggests products that are referenced in the products-sites table.

  • Location type (field LOCTYP)

The location types are used to codify the warehouse locations according to their storage characteristics: size, authorized statuses, technical constraints etc.
They are associated with the products by site, and are used in this way to geographically group the products with similar characteristics.
According to the stock transaction parameterization, the location type for the product is proposed by default and can be modified in the transaction entries.

  • Description (field TYPDESAXX)

This long description is used as a title in screens and reports.

By default the short title, the long title or the column header of a data are recorded (on creation/update) in the connection language of the user.
You can add your translation in another language using the Translation function:

  • Click Translation from the Actions icon in the corresponding field.
  • In the Translation window, add a new language code with the translation in this language.

A user who logs on with this language will view the short description, long description or column header in their connection language if a translation exists. Otherwise, these descriptions will be available in the folder language.

SEEINFOThe connection language must be defined as a default language for thefolder.

  • Short description (field TYPSHOAXX)

Short title used in the screens and reports. This title is recorded in your connection language.

Tab Characteristics

Fields

The following fields are present on this tab :

Characteristics

  • Location category (field LOCCAT)

Specify the location type category.

  • Single-product (field MONITMFLG)

Tick if this location type must be occupied by a single product reference.

  • Dedicated (field DEDFLG)

Tick if products must be assigned to this type of location.

The non-assigned locations are not usable.

  • Replenish (field REAFLG)

This flag is used to define whether or not to select reorder locations.

  • Capacity managed (field FILMGTFLG)

Tick if the dynamic location management has to fill each location on a first-unit-used basis.

  • Authorized substatuses (field AUZSST)

Specify the authorized sub-statuses.

Management

  • Location format (field LOCNUMFMT)

Format of the location number
'A' = warehouse 'B' = zone 'C' = sequence 'D' = scale 'E' = level 'F' = rack 'G' = cavity
Each letter is optional, it can be repeated but it is necessary to respect an ascending order of weights.
For instance: AAABEFF = 3 characters for the warehouse 1 character for the area 1 character for the level and 2 characters for the rack.
It is used during the location creation that can be carried out in mass between two location ranges.
The "Stock at business partner" storage mode does not follow this codification of locations. The format is forced to 10 alphabetical characters in free entry. The tabs are created one by one.

  • Proposal sequence (field PPSSEQ)

Proposal sequence
The proposal sequence is used to assign the free locations on stock receipt in an order other than the alphanumeric format of the location, specifically where the storage method is dynamic.
For instance: If the filling criterion gives the priority to storage in the order of the lowest level in the warehouse, the priority sequence can be AAAEBFF for a location format AAABEFF.
The locations are then proposed in the following order: 1 warehouse AAA 2 level E 3 zone B 4 rack FF

  • Release mode (field FRGMGTMOD)

This field is used to select the location release method.
The release method is only used with the dynamic put-away method. It is used to specify if a location can be immediately re-used after the issue of all of its stock:

  • - Immediate release. The location is immediately available for a new stock receipt.
  • - Delayed release. The location changes to a free status, but it is not used for stock receipt until after a certain time given by the Delay duration.
  • - Blocked status. The location changes to blocked status after its release. It is necessary to manually unblock it before reusing it.
  • Time delay (field TEMLTI)

If the management of location release is delayed, it is necessary to specify in this field the number of hours during which the location will be unavailable following its release.

This delay is strongly advised, in order to avoid disrupting the good functioning of the warehouse. In effect, a location that is not delayed is freed after the entry on the computer of an issue. If the physical movement has not yet taken place, the location

will be re-allocated with the next receipt even though it is not yet available. This risks to create unpleasant surprises for the storeroom operatives that are trying to place a new pallet in the store!

The delay is also used to protect the system against entry errors (cancellation of receipts or issues).

  • field HOU

Informational

  • Maximum weight (field MAXAUZWEI)

Maximum authorized weight

This field is not associated with any application process: It can be entered for information purposes on 6 integers + 1 decimal.

  • Width (field WID)

Location dimensions
This field is not associated with any application processing: It can be entered for information purposes on 4 numerical characters.

  • Height (field HEI)

  • Depth (field DTH)

Grid Units of measure

The units grid is used to impose the storage in a given packing unit for the location type. The units number is used to manage the location occupancy in the dynamic put-away mode.
The location type is used to store the packing units number entered in the movement, depending on the authorized description in the grid.

  • Description (field UOMSHO)

  • Maximum capacity (field MAXQTYPCU)

The units grid is used to impose the storage in a given packing unit for the location type. The units number is used to manage the location occupancy in the dynamic put-away mode.
The location type is used to store the packing units number entered in the movement, depending on the authorized description in the grid.

Grid Alternate types

When the location type selected for the product no longer contains any free location in this grid, it is possible to allocate till 9 possible replacement types only for the dynamic put-away method.

  • Location format (field LOCNUMFMT)

Format of the location number
'A' = warehouse 'B' = zone 'C' = sequence 'D' = scale 'E' = level 'F' = rack 'G' = cavity
Each letter is optional, it can be repeated but it is necessary to respect an ascending order of weights.

  • From location (field STRLOCCRE)

Start and end locations creation ranges of the selected type.
The range entry must be carried out respecting the location type format. Every format subdivision (A/B/C/.../F) must be considered as a start/end range:

  • The end range must be >= to the end range among a specific subdivision
  • If the subdivision start range is numeric, the end range is numeric too. The same rule is applied if the start range is a letter.
For instance: FORMAT AABFF Start A1G01 End B2H03
    This example allows the creation of 72 locations: A1G01 A1G02 A1G03 A1H01 A1H02 A1H03 A2G01 A2G02 A2G03 A2H01 A2H02 A2H03 A3G01 etc. to B2H03

This button is used to open the location creation window.

After the validation of the location type, it is possible to create the associated locations respecting the format defined in the first tab. The creation is used in the generation of several locations within the range entered.

The association of a warehouse at the time of the locations creation depends on the location type.

  • 'Internal' and 'waiting to be put away' type locations : These locations have to be associated with a warehouse code, to be entered in the 'Warehouse' field. This warehouse code is mandatory if the storage site authorizes the warehouse management,
  • 'Customer and 'Sub-contractor' type locations : These locations are not attached to a warehouse code. They remain accessible whatever the warehouse code entered in the document.

SEEINFO When the cursor is set on a range, a right-click shortcut allows the user to have access to the inquiryLocation occupation.

This button is accessible for the dedicated or replenishable location types. It is used to carry out a mass assignment of products to the locations or to delete these assignments.

To create the assignments, it is necessary to enter the location range then the product range to be assigned. Then, by clicking on the add button, the user accesses to the products that will be assigned to the locations. In order that this is taken into account it is necessary to use the save button.

To delete the assignments, it is necessary to select the locations and the products using ranges. By clicking on search, the user has access to all the assignments for these selections. On each line of the grid, it is possible to delete a line via the right button. All the deleted lines are loaded in the right hand grid. Once all the deleted lines are on the screen, it is necessary to use the save button in order that the modifications are carried out.

This button is used to open the location deletion window.
This screen is used to delete the locations of the type selected by start and end range entry. A location used in the stock management cannot be deleted.
When the cursor is set on a range, the user can have access to the inquiry by clicking on the right button locations occupation.
